連結
2007

Connection
2007
oil on canvas, 170 x 226 cm x 4
The Connection series explores themes of spirituality, redemption, and the vision of paradise within the context of Christian faith, transforming these theological concepts into painterly form. The composition is subtly divided into three unequal horizontal sections, echoing the structure of the three realms—Heaven, Purgatory, and Hell—as described in Dante’s Divine Comedy. As the eye moves upward across the canvas, the imagery becomes increasingly purified and luminous, suggesting a spiritual ascent toward the divine. This vertical journey serves as the conceptual and spatial foundation of the series.
Connection-2 references a detail from the Lamentation of Christ fresco by the Italian medieval painter Giotto di Bondone (ca. 1267–1337), located in a small chapel in Padua. I appropriate the ten angels originally shown mourning above the scene, projecting their images onto the canvas and erasing their bodies, leaving only their fluttering wings suspended in space. These disembodied wings weave through the pictorial plane, becoming intangible yet dynamic symbols of spiritual presence. The result is a quiet tension between the earthly and the transcendent.
